Kirsch Pharma HealthCare by SAOTA
In their design for the headquarters and new production site for Kirsch Pharma HealthCare GmbH in Wedemark, Germany, SAOTA rethinked industrial prototypes that were often unsatisfactory and generic.
The Kirsch Pharma HealthCare’s new German factory and headquarters site based in Germany in Wedemark, Germany, is a rather anonymous industrial zone without typical contextual guidance. The South African-based architecture company SAOTA approached the project with the understanding that a meaningful architectural response to the environment would require buildings that stand as sculptured objects in the landscape, making strong architectural statements that instill a sense of presence and identity in their environment. personal rights.
Kirsch Pharma HealthCare specializes in the production of finished medicines and food supplements (oral dosage forms) for the pharmaceutical, nutritional, biotechnology, veterinary and cosmetic industries. In addition to an efficient, sophisticated factory, the company also needs a reception and office area that will articulate its ethos and identity while binding together offices and production facilities. It also aims to create an uplifting work environment for its employees while instilling a sense of pride and institutional well-being in it.
The design of the factory building is largely dictated by functional requirements and consists of a simple rectangular structure with a light gray steel cassette wall forming a skirt or part that slightly projects a facade in which slipped a layer of graphite gray trapezoid sheet. The maintenance of this facade creates a sense of ease in what otherwise appears to be monolithic, while the lines that dramatically carve the surface of the facade increasingly break its mass. The positioning of the plant is carefully considered to make room for future growth and expansion.
Adjacent offices and reception buildings, on the other hand, require a departure from generic industrial forms – a friendly and uplifting environment that will complement and express the nature of Kirsch Pharma HealthCare activities while intelligently humanizing goals and advancing their goals.
While the office area maintains its essentially rectangular shape, and consists of a reception area, conference room and office meeting rooms, SAOTA contrasts with office buildings and factory buildings with a striking canopy of sculpture above its face and main entrance. This bold and futuristic form helps guide visitors and guide them to the point of arrival while mediating the transition from exterior to interior.
The angular and faceted canopy form, which encloses a translucent three-layer glass curtain wall, translates elements of a company’s brand identity and logo while borrowing from its color palette, completing and advancing its corporate identity with landmark quality. The sloping angular lines echo the lines that carve the factory building, which serves to unite the two buildings.
The dynamic shape of the canopy, inspired by technology, futuristic conveys a sense of speed, confidence, and innovation while transparent curtain walls allow buildings to glow like gems in landscapes in dull gray environments and weather. The canopy articulates the advanced, progressive technological component of the Kirsch Pharma HealthCare activities, while the interior conveys the humanitarian and nurturing aspects of its mission.
The canopy overhang not only provides shelter, but also brings human scale to industrial settings and facilitates a friendly transition into buildings. The soffit red ribbing is surprisingly expressive, with a very textural quality that brings additional humanization details to the approach, while contrasting tinkering with the monochromatic sky and architectural environment.
The contrast between the canopy’s outer shell, in the graphite gray zinc cladding and custom-made aluminum powder-coated soffit (which extends indoors and flows through the foyer to form a feature background wall for the reception counter to the rear of the room)) emphasizes the quality of the interior warm and inviting, providing a conscious experience to visitors invited to the world of Kirsch Pharma HealthCare. The office space interior space is flexible, allowing the foyer and meeting room to function as event space when the company holds a client reception or other event.
The way in which the reception area relates to adjacent factory buildings brings together its image and activities, combining business and industry elements facing the client while creating useful differences with contrasting bright and dark facades.
The fact that the Kirsch Pharma HealthCare office building has an outside appearance, in contrast to factory buildings that generally view inward, also distinguishes it, allowing natural light to enter the interior while providing a view that facilitates a sense of connection to garden settings such as parks. . The shifting natural light serves as a natural marker of the progress of the day, which brings the natural dimension to contexts that are generally made up.
Through graphic quality and bold color usage, Kirsch Pharma HealthCare’s unique canopy and office building features create narratives that translate the company’s ethos into aesthetic expressions – landscape, architecture and interior design tell stories while expanding the possibilities of industrial architecture.
